Mastering Entrepreneurship: Why You Don’t Need a Mastermind to Succeed
Hey there fellow entrepreneur!
I think masterminds (if run properly) can be a fantastic resource for online entrepreneurs. Not only do they provide a small community of people you can rely on to support you, but they can help plenty of women entrepreneurs move the needle forward in their businesses.
And, despite all the wonderful things about masterminds, they don’t work for some people (I am one of those people – and I learned this after trying several different masterminds run by different moderators).
The main reason a mastermind might not work for you could be:
- Too many opinions from others when you ask about a challenge you’re experiencing (a bit of information overload)…
- You take on others' problems and devote a lot of time and energy to trying to solve them (because I care so much for the people in that group and want their success as much as I want my own I expend a lot of emotional energy and become invested in their business … which drains me and leaves me with less energy for my own business tasks)…
- You could be using them as a way to procrastinate and distract yourself from solving your own business challenges…
- …and much more.
It’s basically a surefire way to increase your anxiety.
So now that we’ve recognized masterminds and how unhelpful they can be… are you feeling stuck in your business and thinking a mastermind group might be the answer? Or maybe you’ve already joined one, but you’re not seeing the results you were hoping for? Well, you’re not alone.
As a coach myself, I’ve been there, too. I’ve joined mastermind groups (both peer-led and professionally run) thinking they were the holy grail of business success, only to find out they weren’t all they were cracked up to be.
And let’s be honest, it’s frustrating to invest time and money into something that doesn’t give you the results you were hoping for.
But don’t worry, I’m here to share my experience with you and give you some tips on how you can win in entrepreneurship without relying on masterminds.
So, grab a cup of coffee (or tea, or whatever you prefer), and let’s dive in!
How to Win *Without* Masterminds
Build a Supportive Network
Surround yourself with people who believe in you and your vision. This doesn’t need to be a mastermind group.
Find mentors, peers, and friends who can offer you advice and support when you need it. Joining online communities or local business groups can be a great way to connect with like-minded women entrepreneurs.
Invest in your own education
The key to using these resources effectively is to identify the areas where you need the most help and then seek out the best resources for those specific needs. For example, if you struggle with social media marketing, there are countless courses and guides available to help you master that skill.
It's also important to keep in mind that the learning process is ongoing. As your business grows and evolves, you may encounter new challenges that require additional knowledge or skills.
With that said, don't just invest in something because you "need to continue your professional development". Reduce your overwhelm (and information overload) by having a specific goal for each course or program you join. It's ok to take a break from learning once in a while.

Prioritize self-reflection and goal-setting
Take the time to reflect on your business and set clear goals for yourself. This will help you stay focused and motivated, and ensure that you're moving in the right direction. And don't be afraid to adjust your goals as needed.
Hold yourself accountable
Being an entrepreneur can be a lonely journey, especially when you don't have a mastermind group to keep you accountable. However, don't let that discourage you. It's all about setting goals and being disciplined in tracking your progress.
To hold yourself accountable, start by setting deadlines for your tasks and projects. These deadlines should be realistic and achievable. Don't forget to break down your larger goals into smaller ones that can be accomplished within a certain timeframe. By doing this, you'll be able to see progress on a regular basis, which will help you stay motivated. It’s incredibly crucial to remain consistent—that doesn’t mean you need to intensify what you are doing.
Not sure you can hold yourself accountable? Find a biz bestie and set up weekly accountability meetings with them, Keep these meetings short (20-30 minutes should be good for you both to check-in, set goals and troubleshoot any hangups you're having around your tasks). Or you can work with a coach to help you stay on track (ahem - hi 👋 - I can help you with this via 1:1 laser coaching).
Lastly, don't be afraid to learn from your failures. Failure is a natural part of entrepreneurship, and it's how you respond to it that matters. Take the time to analyze what went wrong and how you can avoid making the same mistake in the future.
By doing this, you'll be able to learn and grow as an entrepreneur, even without a mastermind group.
Takeaway
I hope this article has given you a new perspective on mastermind groups and their role in your entrepreneurial journey. While they can be helpful in some cases, they are not a one-size-fits-all solution. You don't need a mastermind to succeed as an entrepreneur, and in fact, it might be holding you back from achieving your full potential.
Remember, your entrepreneurial journey is unique to you, and what works for someone else might not work for you. Trust your instincts, stay true to your values and goals, and don't be afraid to forge your own path.
