Managing Overstimulation, Overthinking, and Overwhelm So You Can Get Things Done in Your Business

Simple Strategies to Manage Overstimulation, Overthinking, and Overwhelm

Hey there, fellow female entrepreneurs, let's talk about a topic that affects many of us - managing overstimulation, overthinking, and overwhelm. We all know that running a business can be exciting and rewarding, but it can also be incredibly stressful at times. Juggling a million different tasks, dealing with difficult clients or team members, and constantly striving to meet our goals can sometimes feel like we're stuck in a never-ending cycle of stress and anxiety.

The good news is, it doesn't have to be this way! By implementing a few simple strategies and techniques, you can learn to manage the 3 Os (overstimulation, overthinking, and overwhelm) so that you can get things done and move forward with confidence. In this blog, we'll explore some effective ways to cope with stress and anxiety in the business world, including tips for self-care, time management, and setting realistic goals. Let's get started!

Simplify Things to Lessen Business Overwhelm

Focus on one thing at a time vs. Everything all at once

When you set out to accomplish something big, it can be easy to overthink things and get overwhelmed and discouraged by the enormity of the task at hand. But by breaking your goal down into smaller, bite-sized pieces, you can make it more manageable and achievable.

Think of it like climbing a mountain. If you stare at the peak the whole time, you'll feel daunted and discouraged. But if you focus on each step along the way, before you know it, you'll be at the top.

So, take a moment to think about your current goal. What's the first step you need to take to get there? Break that step down into even smaller sub-steps, if necessary, until each one feels doable.

By setting mini-goals, you'll not only make your larger goal feel less intimidating, but you'll also give yourself a sense of accomplishment with each mini-goal you achieve. This, in turn, will keep you motivated and energized as you move forward.

You do NOT need to overcommit yourself! Remembering this and practicing it regularly is key.

Fill up your own cup

With so many responsibilities on your plate, it's easy to get swept up in the daily grind and forget to take care of yourself. This is especially important for people who are highly-sensitive or easily overstimulated.

But here's the thing - if you don't take care of yourself, you're more likely to burn out, which can have serious consequences for both you and your business. So, it's crucial that you make self-nurturing a priority.

This can mean different things for different people, but here are a few ideas to get you started:

…make time for yourself: carve out some time each day, or at least each week, to do something that you enjoy, whether that's reading a book, taking a yoga class, or just going for a walk.

…connect with others: entrepreneurship can be a lonely journey, but it doesn't have to be. Make an effort to connect with other entrepreneurs, either online or in person, to share your experiences and get support.

…practice self-care: this can include things like getting enough sleep, eating healthy foods, and engaging in activities that help you relax and recharge.

Notice I didn’t say you had to book a spa retreat or go for weekly massages. All too often we think of these items as the only ways to fill our cup (and we put them off because we ‘don’t have time’), but filling your own cup can be done in small 5-minute intervals throughout the day. Don’t overthink this. Listen to your body and your mind and take that break as needed.

Remember, taking care of yourself isn't a luxury - it's a necessity. When you prioritize your own well-being, you'll have more energy and creativity to bring to your business, which can ultimately help you achieve greater success.

You don’t need to *always* say “yes” to everything

Highly-sensitive people have a tendency to be people pleasers. We want to keep everyone around us happy and so we do or say things to keep them happy … even if it’s not the best decision for our own energy.

What have you been saying “yes” to lately?

Keep in mind by saying “yes” to everything, you’re also saying “no” to other things.

Here's the thing - you don't need to always say "yes" to everything. In fact, sometimes saying "no" can be just as important.

When you say "yes" to every opportunity that comes your way, you run the risk of spreading yourself too thin or ending up overstimulated. You might end up taking on projects that aren't a good fit for your business or saying yes to commitments that leave you feeling overworked and overwhelmed.

On the other hand, when you learn to say "no" when necessary, you can focus on the things that truly matter to you and your business. You can prioritize your time and energy, and make sure that you're working on the projects that align with your goals and values.

Of course, it can be hard to say "no" sometimes, especially when you're afraid of missing out on an opportunity. Don't be afraid to say "no" when necessary - it could be the key to your success.

Takeaway

So there you have it. Running a business is not all chilling on the beach with a mai tai, and it's natural to feel stressed out from time to time.

But by implementing some of the strategies we've discussed, such as breaking your goals down into mini-goals, prioritizing self-care, and learning to say "no" when necessary, you can take control of your stress and stay on track towards your goals.

So, the next time you're feeling overwhelmed, take a deep breath, remind yourself that you're capable of handling whatever comes your way, and focus on taking small, manageable steps towards your goals. You've got this!
