Thriving as an Introverted and Highly Sensitive Entrepreneur - 5 Essential Strategies for Success and Well-Being

Hey there fellow entrepreneur!

Are you an entrepreneur who identifies as both introverted and highly sensitive? Perhaps you're someone who feels overwhelmed by the fast-paced and extroverted nature of the business world, and you struggle to find ways to succeed while maintaining your well-being. See, many women who fall into these categories face unique challenges when it comes to entrepreneurship.

And you’re not alone. (hi! I'm here - I'm a highly-sensitive introverted entrepreneur too!)

However, it's important to remember that being introverted and highly sensitive are not weaknesses, but rather strengths that can be leveraged for success. With the right strategies in place, you can not only survive, but thrive as an introverted and highly sensitive entrepreneur.

We’re going to dive right into five essential strategies that you can implement in your daily life to help you achieve success and maintain your well-being. From setting boundaries to practicing self-care, these tips will empower you to harness your unique strengths and achieve your entrepreneurial goals.

5 Essential Strategies for Success and Well-Being

1. What is YOUR success?

Success is different for everybody—it's important to note that success is a subjective concept. What constitutes success for you may differ greatly from what it means for someone else in your industry.

It's crucial to understand that your personal success in business should not be based on external factors such as other people's expectations, industry standards, or even the accomplishments of those in your niche. Success is not measured by a specific amount of revenue (or even revenue at all!).

You have the power to define and achieve success on your own terms.

2. Become a pro in your niche

In today's fast-paced online world, being vague about your value proposition can hinder your chances of success. While the top players in your industry may appeal to a broad audience, their large following affords them the luxury of not having to be specific.

For the majority of entrepreneurs, however, being ultra-specific is essential to achieving success. By identifying your target audience, differentiating yourself from competitors, and repeating your message (over and over and over again), you can easily attract and retain your ideal customers.

To find your niche and expertise, start by reflecting on your specific skills, interests, and unique background. Consider the problems you've overcome, your personality type, and the hobbies that set you apart from others in your industry. These differences can be used to boost your expertise and make you stand out in a crowded market. Then don’t be afraid to talk about them! Us introverted women tend to shy away from talking about our expertise. It is more than ok to share!

3. “Effective frequency”

The concept of effective frequency refers to the number of times an individual must be exposed to a message before they take a desired action, such as purchasing a product or signing up for an email list. Although opinions vary among marketing experts, it's generally believed that a message should be repeated between 6-20 times to achieve the desired response.

With this being said, the need to repeat, repeat, repeat is CRUCIAL. (kinda like when talking to your kids!)

In light of this, it is vital to make your specialty the focal point of your marketing strategy. By consistently highlighting your niche, visitors to your website or social media pages will have no doubt about the nature of your business and your success within the field.

While you don't necessarily need to create a catchphrase, aligning all your marketing efforts around your area of expertise is key to maximizing the effectiveness of your messaging. With repetition and focus, you can establish a clear brand identity and attract your ideal customers.

Think about any product you’ve purchased in the last 6 months (car, shoes, makeup, fast food… anything). How many different places did you see or hear about that product before you bought it? And yes bigger brands have big advertising budgets, but the principles for all businesses are the same - your potential customers need to hear your message and learn about your offers several times before they buy.

Don't be afraid to say the same thing over and over again (you're the only one who is hearing it 100% of the time you're saying it - everyone else is multi-tasking and will need to hear it over and over again.)

4. Find your ideal customer base and market to them

Once you've identified your area of expertise, the next step is to pinpoint where your ideal customers or clients are spending their time.

Knowing your niche and target audience can save you an immense amount of time and effort. By understanding who your potential customers are, the problems they face, and how you can solve them, you can develop a comprehensive plan of action.

To find your target customers, start by asking yourself a few key questions.

… What social media platforms do they use the most?

… What are they searching for on Google?

… Where do they go for help?

While it may be tempting to promote yourself on every platform available, this can lead to burnout and dilute the impact of your message. Instead, focus your efforts on mastering one or two key platforms at first.

Once you've established a strong presence on those channels, you can expand your marketing efforts to include other platforms as well (but don’t jump to this too quickly - that’s how you exhaust yourself).

5. Know that you don’t have to do this alone

It's often assumed that introverted entrepreneurs prefer to work alone, but the reality is that we can also struggle with overworking ourselves, keeping our struggles to ourselves, and burning out easily.

That's why it's important to connect with like-minded individuals who are in a similar position to you while you work towards building business success. Find 2-3 other highly-sensitive entrepreneurs to be your business besties and connect regularly in some format (could be a monthly Zoom call, text message, a Voxer chat … whatever works best for your little grouping). This group will provide you with the emotional support you need as you continue your business.

Takeaway

So there you have it!

Remember, success is defined differently for everyone. Don't let others' expectations or industry standards dictate your success. Bring it back to the basics: recognize your expertise and own it!; get clear on your message and bang that drum on repeat on the 1-2 platforms you choose to connect with your audience. And ditch those big groups in favor of a couple of close relationships with other highly-sensitive entrepreneurs.

So go ahead, and take the first step towards thriving. The world needs your unique perspective and talents, and you deserve to build a business that reflects who you truly are.
