Zapped by a Bolt of Lightning? Try This 5-Minute Energy Reset for Online Entrepreneurs
Hey there fellow entrepreneur!
We all know how draining the online business world can be, but taking just 5 minutes to reset our energy can make a huge difference. In this blog, we'll explore some simple tips to help you refocus and decompress when you need it most.
Simple Tips to Help You Refocus and Decompress When You Need It Most
The online world of entrepreneurship leaves us often feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and depleted of energy. Whether it's after a client call, a challenging task, or simply from scrolling through social media, taking just 5 minutes to reset our energy can have a positive impact on our overall well-being. But wait, before we dive into some simple tips to help you refocus and decompress when you need it most… I need to say this.
Don't get all … “but Kristen, meditation doesn't work for me” and “I've tried deep breathing” because here's the thing - practice is key. It's repetition that makes it work –– and that means doing it again and again AND AGAIN. Eventually, it gets easier. Like dieting, you can't skip a piece of cake or dessert after dinner 2x and expect to step on the scale and lose 5lbs... you have to have consistency and the same goes for stress. You have to practice these steps and take them seriously, daily. (sidenote: I’m not going to ask you to meditate with this reset practice so just relax).
Ok, now we’re ready to dive in. And yes, you’re going to practice these.
Set Intention (30 seconds)
The first step in resetting your energy is to set your intention for the next portion of your day. Take a deep breath and think about what you want to achieve from this mini-reset. Whether it's to refocus, relax, or decompress, setting your intention will help you stay focused and get the most out of your 5 minutes.
Breathwork (1 min or less)
One of the most effective ways to reset your energy is through breathwork. Take three deep breaths, inhaling for 5 seconds, holding for 5 seconds, and exhaling for 7 seconds. This simple exercise can help calm your nervous system, reduce stress and anxiety, and bring clarity to your mind.
Why 3?
Well, my experience is that the first breath doesn't do much to slow down my heart rate. The second I can feel a physical shift and then the 3rd is the magic one - that's where I feel the mental release - the one that calms my mind.
Write Affirmations (1 min or less)
Affirmations are powerful statements that can help shift your mindset and energy. Take a minute to write down 2-3 affirmations that remind you of who you are and the intention you're setting for this reset. For example, "I am capable of handling anything that comes my way," or "I am calm and centered, no matter what is happening around me." Often I’ll pick one affirmation and write it out 3 times. Move Energy Through Music (2 min 30 seconds)
Music is a great way to move energy and shift your mood quickly. Choose a song that you love, one that gets you moving or dancing, and play it on your computer or phone. Get up from your chair and just move your body in a way that feels good to you. Dance, shake, or even just stretch. The point is to move the energy through your body and release any tension or stress you may be holding onto.
OR Take a Mini-Walk (5 minutes)
If you have the time and it’s not downpouring outside or cloudy with a chance of meatballs, taking a short walk outside can do wonders for resetting your energy. Just a few minutes in the fresh air and natural light can help clear your mind and give you a fresh perspective. Plus, it's a great way to get some exercise and boost your energy levels.
If you have a yard or garden where you live, taking a short walk around pulling a couple of weeds or wiping off leaves (or hugging a tree like my daughters enjoy doing) can be a way to quickly reset your energy. Even better if you can do it barefoot (studies show that physically connecting with nature can help our well-being).
Takeaway
See, we all need to take the time to reset our energy and refocus our minds. Whether it's through breathwork, affirmations, or music, finding a few minutes to recharge can have a significant impact on our overall well-being. So, the next time you feel zapped by a bolt of lightning, try this 5-minute energy reset and see how it can help you feel more centered, calm, and energized. And remember, it's okay to take a few minutes for yourself throughout the day – it can actually help you be more productive and successful in the long run! Imagine THAT!
Confession: I use this reset 2-3 times each day and it’s the #1 recommendation I make to my laser coaching clients for dealing with overwhelm and stress throughout the day.
